G.D. Estoril Praia and Once Sport Raising the Bar in Youth Football

At Once Sport , we want to help clubs raise their performance to the next level. Estoril Praia , one of Portugal’s best-known clubs, perfectly matches our mission. Their youth academy is known for developing top young talent in Portugal. And after integrating our video analysis software, they have taken that development process even further!
Since the agreement we made last year, which you can read more about in this blog .Estoril Praia’s youth teams have been using the Once Sport Analyserto advance their performances. We wanted to find out firsthand, what are their impressions of it, and how are they using the Analyser. Also, we wanted to share their thoughts with you, and you can read more about them in the rest of this blog.
Using Live analysis
Sebastião Macias Head Coach, and Samuel Ramadas Assistant Coach of the senior and under-19 teams explained the importance of using live analysis in modern football. It allows them to understand the game’s dynamics as it is happening. Because of that, they can instantly improve parts of the game that need fixing. To have a different view of the game, the analysis team is watching the game from a higher position. They then follow the live recording of the game and send clips of the game to the bench. Then they instantly can correct parts of the game, like set-pieces marking issues or pressing plans. Also, they are preparing clips for halftime or substitution to affect the game.
They also emphasised that the partnership between Estoril and Once Sport has been fundamental to optimising this process. It allows them to make better decisions and improve performance. Finally, they expressed their excitement about the development of their partnership with Once Sport.
Once Sport’s role in Youth development
Listen to Rodrigo Antunes Ferreira , Youth Development Manager at the club. Talk about having great connections with the Once Sport team. He marked that the use of Once Sport Analyser has positively impacted many aspects of the club. From creating a good environment, and advancing performances, to relations with the parents.
The Analyst of the under-17 team, Luis Cardoso , talked in-depth about pre-match analysis. He detailed exactly what features of the Analyser are used and for what purposes. From area marking, and drawing arrows to player numbering. They all help them determine offensive and defensive plans for upcoming matches. In the end, he highlighted the importance of visualisation for young players and the fact that using Once Sport Analyser is helping them reach the top level they are striving for.
On the other hand, the Head Coach of the under-16 team, Gonçalo dos Santos , talked about the importance of the post-match analysis. He said it allows them to reflect on the positive and negative aspects of the game. Then based on the reflection, they can plan the week ahead. He claims that the Analyser is essential in giving feedback to the players and as a result, their preparation has reached another level.
Diogo Fernandes , the Head Coach of the under-15 team also pointed up how today, video analysis is an essential tool for the progression of young players. It allows them to get a clear insight into their performances. Be that for an individual or the whole team. It also lets them make training sessions more efficient and focused. Which then enables players to create strong foundations for their future and helps them grow in their future careers.
Finally, the Head Coach of the under-14 team, Rafael Cuoto , gave us concrete three examples of how Once Sport Analyser is being used at Estoril Praia Academy. First, for creating a video analysis of the team’s performance. Second, they analyze their opponents ahead of their matches. And third, which he emphasised as the most important one, they are creating weekly video analysis to help the individual development of players. They do that by creating tags to cut the videos much quicker and watching games to find patterns in the player’s behaviors.

As you could have heard in all the videos, the coaches of Estoril Praia are happy with their experiences of using Once Sport Analyser and their partnership with Once Sport .
